Understanding Birth Stories with Redwood Midwifery

Class Description: "Holding Space: Understanding and Honoring Birth Stories"

Every birth story is unique, carrying deep emotions, lessons, and perspectives. As a doula, understanding how to hold space for and work with these stories is a vital part of supporting your clients and helping them move forward into parenting.

In this class, we will explore how birth stories and their meanings evolve over time, reflecting the ongoing personal growth and integration process of the birthing person. Using the Birthing from Within framework of Birth Story Gates, you’ll gain a powerful map to better understand and navigate the layers of your clients’ birth experiences.

You’ll learn:

  • How to listen to multiple layers of the story at once without getting lost or stuck.

  • Techniques for creating a space for sharing that meets your clients’ unique needs.

  • The role of the Birth Story Gates in processing the experience of birth and finding the wisdom and medicine contained in the story.

  • Practical tools to help clients process, reframe, and find empowerment in their birth narratives.

  • How to navigate situations when your perspective differs from your client’s story.

Birth stories contain a complex blend of emotions, events, and perspectives, encompassing both joy and challenge. This class will equip you to honor and hold space for your clients’ multifaceted experiences, fostering healing, connection, and transformation.

Join us to deepen your understanding of birth stories and elevate the care you provide.
